"A Spiritual Lesson In Toon Language" (Subset D) For The Kids (This Subset Marked FTK)
I use clips from a Digimon episode called Kazu’s Upgrade and the Smurfs episode Can't Smurf The Music. This is a simple lesson about music and joy (how they go hand-in-hand). This is something everyone needs. Scriptures Used Include: Psalms 98 (whole chapter).
I use the Garfield And Friends cartoon Banana Nose. Making fun of someone is definitely an act of Bullying. Scriptures Used Include: Ephesians 4: 25-31, Colossians 3:8, I John 3:15, Mathew 7:12
I use the Garfield And Friends Cartoon Ode To Odie to show that Bullies are definitely proud people if this isn’t dealt with and this kind of person humbled, pretty bad consequences will result. We are Studying Goliath. We also use the Cartoon Network Skit Cartoon Network Police Lineup to portray what a victim might be feeling. We discuss how to handle this situation. Scriptures Used Include: I Samuel 17: 20-59
This lesson is pretty simple but effective for all people who are interested in a cartoon Bible study. This mostly focuses on Jesus’ physical birth and the Bible focus is actually in the cartoon itself. We use a special that is on every single year (at least at this time). This special is A Charlie Brown Christmas. Most people (I would think anyway) have watched this at least once in their lives and it does a good job of showing why we Christians celebrate it and its true meaning to us Christians. It’s not glitz, glamour, or presents. It is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Scriptures Used Include: Luke 2: 8-14
I use the Smurfs Episode The Fastest Wizard In The World to show that some shortcuts are not worth it because of the definite possibility of a half-baked plan yielding a half-baked result and destruction close on its heels. Scriptures Used Include: Luke 4: 1-13, 6: 46-49 This lesson is simple but fascinating with the secular cartoon inside it. I use a Smurfs episode called The Smurfomatic Smurfulator. Because of the vast amount of Bible Scripture used, I use a Superbook episode called The Flood. Scriptures Used Include: Genesis chapters 6-8 and some of chapter 9. To me, the parallels are striking. This lesson shows a very good comparison and demonstrationo of a bundle of sticks and teamwork!! I use a clip from a Smurfs episode called The Smurf's Time Capsule and the Smurfs episode The Smurfstone Quest. Scriptures Used: Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12
This lesson is about just what pleasure means and its rightfjul place in one's life. Most kids probably don't remember the series that I am using for this lesson. I am using The Super Mario Bros. Super Show for this lesson. I will show a clip of the episode entitled Mario's Magic Carpet to show what pleasure means to some people. Then, we will discuss King Solomon's take on the subject. Scriptures Include: Ecclesiastes 2: 1-11
I am using another clip from the Super Mario Brothers Super Show. The episode that I am using is from the episode Toad Warrior. We are studying righteous vs. unrighteous curses. Appropriae language when trying to interact with people is imperitive, so this a lesson showing in part how not to react to a problem with people making fun of you. Things might be different if an obstacle threatens the very wittness. Prayer is needed for the reaction to this. Trust God that the obstacle is handled in a Godly manner and with much prayer. Scriptures Used Include: Romans 12: 9-21; Genesis 3: 8-19; II Kings 2: 23-25; Matthew 21: 18-22 (parallel in Mark 11: 22-25)
This is a surprisingly hard hitting, but necessary lesson on judgment. Mind you, this is slated for you kids, but it is needed for you to know about this subject now. We are discussing goals in life and setting good ones. We discuss how to grow into Godly young men and women. Good goals are extremely life affirming and choices are life-changing. I am using the Darkwing Duck episode Easy Come, Easy Grows. This is the first time I have used this series and you kids may not remember this one. This lesson teaches not to want things in place of God. Scriptures Used: Matthew 13: 24-30; 36-43; 6: 19-24; I Timothy 6: 3-10 (In That Order)
