A Spiritual Lesson In Toon Language: Lesson 49

Topic: Accept God's Blessing Of Safety On Your Life

Series: Looney Tunes

Episode: Rebel Rabbit

Lesson PDF link: 49.pdf

Today, we are talking about accepting God's blessing of safety when he gives it. In life, we are not always safe technically because dangers abound in this world and we have to be ready to pray about and work through such problems. Have you ever forgot your blessing of safety when God grants it? Now, most people might say no to this question, but there's more than one way to forget this kind of blessing. For example, as of the time this lesson was and is written, personally, I have had no broken bones yet and unfortunately fall because of eyesight issues a lot. If I am not careful, I can forget this gift and take it for granted. This would be a mistake. In the cartoon today, we will show a scenario that reflects forgetting a blessing of safety. We will have a discussion afterward.

What did you see in this cartoon?

Bugs is very out of character here in this cartoon and for some reason thinks that he is not worth anything because there is effectively no bounty on his head, when in actuality, he is evidently shown to be highly favored. I would think this is a blessing delivered by God Himself if it was real. Bugs does nothing but evil deeds through the picture just to raise his bounty price from 2 cents to $1,000,000. Isn't this foolish? We need to also note that Bugs doesn't help rabbit kind be more valuable to a hunter--just himself. Bugs effectively ruins his blessing of safety, gets blown up in the end and probably, if the situation was real, gets a life sentence in a very tough prison of his day.

Bugs needed to remember his scriptures and know that God provides safety, prosperity and blessing to the righteous.

The Bible States In Psalm 4 (NIV)

1 Answer me when I call to you, my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer.

2 How long will you people turn my glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods

3 Know that the LORD has set apart his faithful servant for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him.

4 Tremble and do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent.

5 Offer the sacrifices of the righteous and trust in the LORD.

6 Many, LORD, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?” Let the light of your face shine on us.

7 Fill my heart with joy when their grain and new wine abound.

8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.

Now, this is not to say that the righteous are always physically safe, by no means. However, the stuff that Bugs pulled in this episode wouldn't help anyone's cause and obviously should never be attempted. Instead, we need to remember to pray for God's plan for us.

The Bible States In Romans 8: 5-8; 26-28 (NIV)

5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.

6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.

8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.

26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

What did we learn?

I recently got some good feedback about this lesson. This lesson can easily be on spiritual security rather than physical safety. I think that this feedback rings very true. My friend says: “Because I am a child of God, I am secure in His arms”. By the same token, why mess up a huge blessing of not being hunted by making your own problem like Bugs?

This cartoon is obviously greatly exaggerated, however it is still a good example of what not to do. Bugs, in a very overblown, but in a sense realistic way, is trying his best to be in charge and effectively be his own god. For us believers, this can't be, because we need to follow the Spirit's direction and only God knows best for His Kingdom and we sure don't. This doesn't always mean our personal safety, but the growing of the Kingdom of God and ultimately we are very spiritually safe in His arms.
