A Spiritual Lesson in Toon Language: Lesson 5

Topic: God Gives Us Strength

Series: Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers

Episode: "Foul Play in the Sky"

Lesson PDF link: 5.pdf

Introduction

I use the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Episode "Foul Play In The Sky". We discuss that we all may get the opportunity to be there when God needs us to help Him (and I think we all will get this shot regardless of who we are). This lesson shows that God won't leave us alone and that the Holy Spirit instructs us when we seek it in Jesus Christ.

Scriptures used include 1 Peter 5: 5-11; I Corinthians 10: 12-13; Mathew 6: 25-34; Philippians 4:13; and John 14: 15-31.

Have you ever had a crisis in your life and didn't have an answer for it?

Sometimes bad things just happen and this is just one of the reasons why God wants us with him, so he can help us out.

I am going to show a Power Rangers episode called "Foul Play in the Sky".

Can you relate to this show?

Kimberly had a true crisis. Lives depended on her. She just about panicked. She had to trust Zordon and Alpha to get her and her friends and family down safely. Think of Zordon and Alpha as a God-type character in this show. They gave strength to Kimberly in the form of encouragement and instructions to land the plane.

Bible Study: 1 Peter 5: 5-11, I Corinthians 10: 12-13, Mathew 6: 25-34, Philippians 4:13

Linking these scriptures to the show we just watched, what do these scriptures mean to you? Has the Devil tried something like what happened in this show on you?

The Devil doesn't want us to do what God says to do. Satan would let us crash our planes and die. God doesn't want this to happen. He would rather us be able to do what we are called to do with his encouragement, Holy Word, and telling us what to do. If we allow God to be our strength, don't worry about what others think about us doing the right thing, and trust God to be our pilot, we will kill the devil's plans (Snizzard), and frustrate the Devil (Rita) to no end. He'll be foiled again. There's nothing he can do about it!!

Our Lord Jesus says in John 14: 15-31:

'If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever' the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.' Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, 'But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?' Jesus replied, 'If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. You heard me say, 'I am going away and I am coming back to you.' If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me, but the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me. Come now; let us leave.'

Sometimes, like Kimberly, we may be the only one capable of getting help to someone in need. This is why it is ultra important that we let God put us in the right spot at the right time. You can be someone's miracle. That is what God wants, for us to be a major help to other people. Be like Kimberly. Follow God's instructions and let the Devil know that you aren't going to follow his.

What have you learned and how will you apply it to your life?
